A little about me
I grew up in Tennessee, practically on the campus of Southern Adventist University, with trails through the local forest to explore. I went to Adventist schools and could walk to school all the way through college, apart from two years farther out. I'm grateful for parents who made a Christian education a priority for my brother and me. I started college as a biology major and ended up in computer science, once I realized how much I liked learning and managing technology. College is also where I met my future wife, Lesley. Since then we've lived in Virginia and Maryland.
A year out of college I was called to the Communication department at the Seventh-day Adventist Church's world headquarters to manage its technology. I've worked at the headquarters ever since, on many projects where communication and technology meet, and the work has taken me to many places around the world. For many years I also managed technology for the small Adventist school where Lesley, an elementary teacher, taught. A small school with limited resources is a good place to learn how much can be done with very little.
Recently I decided it was time to round out my experience with formal training in communication, so I completed a master's in communication at Regent University. Taking classes while working full time was a challenge, but I enjoyed the material and the discussions more than I expected.
Our family has grown from the two of us to three boys, two dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and a good many fish. One thing I like about where we live is that the beach is close. Assateague Island (the pony beach) is my favorite.
In my free time I like hiking, my aquariums, gaming, and reading. I also love snorkeling, but we don't live close to a good place to do that. I still love making technology do interesting things, mostly with Apple gear, Raspberry Pi, and Ubuntu, and occasionally Windows. The projects in the Studio came out of that.
